Cinderella
Posted in Adventures in Parenting, crafty mama on 04/12/2008 01:11 pm by Mommy RimesI thought we would avoid this.
I thought, “That will never happen to our family.”
I thought it couldn’t possibly occur so soon.
But, I was wrong.
She likes Cinderella.
Of all the princesses, it has to be her. But can you really blame her?
It’s really quite funny, because for a time in college, I was very much a closet feminist. I even wrote a paper describing how awful Disney’s version of Cinderella was.
But those silly little mice and the big blue/silver dress have captured my daughter’s imagination.
And she now has her own Cinderella dress.
I made this from a recycled prom dress one of our neighbor girls gave me. I loved the color of the fabric, but the hem was torn in several places from misplaced heels. The top was a bit large for Miss R, so I darted it and cut off the bottom 5 inches. The skirt, I cut a large rectangle and lined it with the remaining tulle that wasn’t too badly shredded. The skirt is actually more of an apron, with ties in the back.
The first day I made this, she wore it for a few hours. The next day, was more of the same. She has even worn it to Gramma’s for dinner.
Even us closet feminists enjoy seeing their daughters all dressed up and playing “princess” now and then.

A “closet feminist” … hmmm…. and how do you account for those years when YOU dressed up as a princess… hmmm???
The little cone party hat that we taped/ stapled tissue paper too, the high heels, the frou-frou costumes…
Relax… being a princess at age 2 and one-half is NOT about social inequities … it’s about being pretty and fancy : ) and having everyone oooh and ahhh about you.
You did an EXCEPTIONAL job of transforming little Cinderella’s rags to a BEAUTIFUL gown!! Now, do you think the rabbit would work instead of the mice?
